CRASH discussion

  1. summarize a few characters/plot lines: what happens? what is the cause? what is the consequence? ... and what is the effect of that "consequence"? (casual chain...)
  2. what is the main message the film is promoting? IOW, what is the film positing as the original influences, precipitating, and remote causes of the tragic/comic events that unfold?
  3. how does its technique of dramatizing interlocking actions/reactions of its multiethnic characters drive that message home?
  4. how persuasive is the film in making this causal argument? is it flattening out reality to only one motivating cause for all actions?
  5. how realistic are the characters?
  6. counterargument: do you think the film says that people do not have real control over their actions? does the film present actions as totally determined by how others treat us or by our own preconceived notions?
  7. or does film represent how people get beyond their prejudices?
  8. what are your counterarguments?

about papers:

peer review will be modeled after a restaurant review and menu and

will be done individually over the weekend.

Peer review discussion will take place Monday.

Please bring the peer's paper with markings and separate sheet with your RestaurantEvaluation on Monday.

Also bring snacks, drinks, etc. (to discuss restaurant reviews it helps to have munchies).

I need a volunteer for bringing an easy-listening music (on cd) for our peer review discussion...

Final version is now due WedApr5
